Media is evolving to become increasingly interactive as people’s attention span becomes shorter and shorter.

With so many advertisements and promotions wherever people go — whether online or offline — brand marketers need to become more creative in their ads.

One of the most effective uses for QR code technology is promoting the brand, products, and services, so the prevalence of a QR code in print advertising isn’t surprising.

With the versatility of the QR code technology, brand markets can easily elevate their promotions without the constraint of material, activations, and physical executions.

Customers can simply get redirected to the online platform, where they’ll find a video, photo, AR, VR, and other creative media.

A QR code generator now packs plenty of features, too, so the imagination is the limit for creative QR code uses in interactive ads.

Here are a few real-life examples for brand marketers looking for creative applications of interactive ads.

    OUTFRONT QR code awareness campaign

OUTFRONT Media is one of the largest out-of-home media companies, with plenty of possible placements across the U.S.

The company’s QRad campaign allowed for interactive creative changes in their liveboards.

For this campaign, OUTFRONT partnered with nonprofit organizations to raise awareness in campaigns to end childhood domestic violence or the abuses children experience growing up.

Liveboard visuals included statements written by children, such as I Should Have Stopped It, It Was My Fault, I Lived in Fear, My Dreams Were Broken, and more.

Each visual included Change The Ending, to run throughout October 2022 during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

QR codes aren’t only effective in promoting brands, services, and products but for good causes in humanity, too.

Burger King’s QR code commercial in 2020

At the height of the pandemic in 2020, fast-food giant Burger King launched an interactive QR code commercial on TVs.

The QR code floated around the screen, and viewers had to chase and scan the code.

When scanned, the QR code offered a free Whopper burger and a free meal in exchange for downloading the app on their mobile phones.

Since it was a different time when people mostly stayed at home, the interactive QR code proved very effective in promoting the brand and keeping people company amid the lockdown restrictions.

IKEA’s AR QR code for furniture shopping

Furniture giant IKEA allows customers to see how the furniture pieces would look in their homes before purchasing.

This way, customers can determine whether the QR code fits the overall theme the homeowner may have in mind.

Through the brand’s mobile app, customers can access the QR code and show AR for the furniture, where they can adjust the mood, color, and placement around the home.

This move from IKEA isn’t only an interactive QR application and has helped people make smarter purchase decisions.

    Coinbase’s Super Bowl QR code

The Super Bowl is one of the most famous sporting shows, where the biggest stars and celebrities like Lady Gaga and Michael Jackson have performed.

Coinbase, a cryptocurrency exchange platform, knew the popularity of the sporting event, so the company advertised its services using QR codes.

What makes the company’s QR code campaign even more compelling is that it showed on the screen like the infamous DVD logo from back in the day.

Every time the QR code bounced around the screen, it would change color, reminiscent of the hypnotizing logo.

The nostalgia and the show’s popularity proved the QR code campaign very effective, as it crashed Coinbase’s website once shown on TV.

Make an interactive QR code and catch people’s attention

Catching people’s attention to see your brand’s ads and promotions is challenging.

Bombarded with ads across online and offline platforms, people are more critical or ignore them completely.

Using an interactive QR code can increase the chance of getting people’s attention, increasing brand recall and recognition.
